XYG

The charting and graph visualization library behind GraphForge views, useful on its own for very large datasets.

XYG is a supporting library in the Curate Labs stack. It is a fast, interactive charting and graph visualization library for Python, Node, and the browser. We built it to draw GraphForge results, and it stands on its own for anyone with very large data to plot.

What it does

  • Handles very large data. For large charts, the Rust core computes only what the screen can show. Pan and zoom rerun the same step for the new range. XYG has rendered all of OpenStreetMap, about 10 billion points.
  • Returns the rows. A selection on the chart gives back the original rows, not just pixels.
  • Fits how you already work. Compose charts declaratively or with matplotlib conventions.
  • Styles like the web. Customize with Python, CSS, or Tailwind.
  • Exports anywhere. HTML, PNG, SVG, and PDF.

Status

XYG is in alpha and changes often. It is open source under Apache-2.0.

Works with

XYG does not need GraphForge. It exists because other visualization packages did not meet GraphForge's needs, so the two fit together closely. A GraphForge query returns a table; XYG turns it into a network view or a chart.
